Consignment Sale Life Cycle

All consignment sales follow basically the same path from being initially created to reviewing reports and charts of the results.

As you review the various stages of a consignment sale below, take note of how the FlashConsign software adjusts to meet the needs of your consignment sale.

1) Create Consignment Sale

Our Create Consignment Sale Wizard will walk you through the process of creating a new consignment sale step-by-step, with descriptions and examples of all data entries you need to make.

And, remember, your first consignment sale is half price!

2) Select Item Categories

It's quick and easy to restrict what types of items your consignors can sell at your consignment sale.

3) Upload Files

Distribute files for your consignment sale and limit who can view them by selecting which groups have access to each file.

This feature allows you to publish informational documents to public viewers who may be considering selling at your sale, seller's agreement and instruction documents for consignors at your sale, and special instruction documents for those who will be working jobs at your sale.

The sky is the limit. FlashConsign lets you easily ensure that everyone has exactly what they need.

4) Manage Job Categories

Create a set of Job Categories which each describe a particular role or job that someone can fulfill at your consignment sale.

Reuse job categories at future consignment sales; they carry over automatically.

5) Create Job Openings

It takes just a couple of minutes to add job openings for your consignment sale.

Need five cashiers for the same window of time? No problem, and no additional effort is required.

6) Choose a Tag Style

We provide different tag styles to choose from, and you can even select how many to include per page.

If you have uploaded a logo for your organization, most tag styles print it right on the tag!

Don't see a tag style that fits what you need? We will be happy to work with you to create one that does.

7) Manage Consignors

FlashConsign makes all aspects of managing consignors quick and easy.

From approving applications to viewing a seller's history with your sale to sending broadcast emails, it's all just a click away.

Need to assign multiple Seller ID's to a single seller? Yes, it does that too.

8) Manage Security

Configure how the FlashConsign POS System operates when a cashier attempts certain actions, such as manually changing the price of an item.

If your cashiers will be trusted members of your organization, you can relax security constraints. Otherwise, you will want to require the password of a sale administrator (you or any number of others you specify).

9) Set Up Fees

FlashConsign makes it a trivial task to add fees that are charged to each consignor.

Fees are optional, and will be automatically displayed and accounted for in consignor settlement reports.

10) Publish and Share

By default, all new consignment sales start in an unpublished state. This lets you set up and configure the sale prior to making it public.

Once you have everything configured how you want it, publishing the sale takes just two clicks of your mouse.

Now, all that is left to do is to let all of your prospective sellers know about the sale by sending them the pre-formatted link (provided) by email, via Facebook, or by adding a link on your organization's website.

11) Collect Consignors

It won't be long after you publish your consignment sale and share it with potential consignors that sellers will begin to sign up.

For your first sale with FlashConsign, you will probably configure it to require approval for each new consignor. You will receive an email whenever there is an application to approve, and you can assign the Seller ID(s) at the same time.

For your next consignment sales, you may want to still approve each consignor application, or you can elect to auto-approve those consignors which are returning. This way, you can approve (and assign Seller ID(s)) new consignors, while letting FlashConsign automatically assign previous Seller ID(s) to returning consignors and moving them to approved status automatically.

12) Create Item Flags

Item Flags allow your cashiers to quickly attach one or more "flags" to an item that is sold.

These flags can be useful in many different ways. For example, to maintain a minimum level of quality of items sold at your consignment sale, you can have your cashiers flag broken, run-down or otherwise unacceptable items. Then, after your sale, you can review the Item Flags Report to determine if any of your sellers are consistently violating your quality policies, and then take appropriate action.

13) Download the POS Client Application

Prior to the day of your consignment sale, you will need to download the POS Client Application to each computer you will use as a checkout station.

Installation is fast and easy, and we provide you with step-by-step instructions, including a screen shot for each step.

14) Run Your Consignment Sale

Here's where FlashConsign really shines!

We are proud to offer what we believe is the fastest, most advanced consignment sale POS system available.

Anyone can build a system to scan barcodes on tags. We built a system that also makes it a snap to manually enter tags when needed, and to anticipate what you need when you need it.

If you've used any other system, you will be especially glad that you chose to move to FlashConsign.

Our competitors don't even come close.

15) Synchronize

At the end of each day of your sale, or even several times throughout the day, you will need to synchronize transactions made on each computer with the FlashConsign servers.

Of course, this is as easy as clicking the Synchronize button and then watching the progress bar.

Sample Synchronization Progress dialog box

Each time you synchronize transactions allows your sellers to view their estimated settlement up to that point.

They love this feature.

16) Generate Consignor Settlement Reports

When the sale is over, it's time to relax and let FlashConsign automatically generate the settlement reports for your consignors.

The reports will be in PDF format, which you can archive for your records.

Each report accounts for custom percentages (if applicable per consignor), any applicable fee(s), and is already addressed and pre-formatted for #9 or #10 window envelopes.

Just fold, stuff, stamp and mail. Now, that's easy.

17) Statistics and Reports

Once your consignors' checks are in the mail, it's time to relax.

You can come back at any time to view statistics, reports and charts about all aspects of your consignment sale.

Understand Your Sale:

  • Did you sell more items per transaction during the half-off sale?
  • Did people paying by credit card buy more than those paying with cash?
  • What types of items sold better than others?
  • What was the average price of all items for sale, and how does that compare to the average price of all items actually sold?

These reports and statistics are where the real value of FlashConsign comes into play. Understanding more about your consignment sale will allow you to make better decisions in the future, which will lead to more successful results.

Sample Chart of Sales Over Time

And, if you don't see a report or chart that shows you what you want to know, let us know, we will be happy to work with you to make sure you get exactly what you need.

There's even more!

Believe it or not, we have only scratched the surface of what FlashConsign can do for you.

The only way to truly understand how powerful, yet simple it all is, is to try it for yourself.
